US President Donald Trump praised the voice of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, on Friday, after his performance at a ceremony held on the occasion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw at the Kennedy Center.

The president was addressing Bocelli in the East Room of the White House before a private concert, and was accompanied by his wife, First Lady Melania Trump.

Trump said he and Bocelli are friends, and that he asked about four weeks ago if the tenor would perform at the White House.

The private ceremony at the White House on Friday night was attended by Republican members of Congress and members of Trump’s Cabinet.

“This is a great honor,” Trump said. “We will hear a voice, the voice of an angel.”
