President Donald Trump suggested Thursday that he and Secretary of State Marco Rubio plan to focus their attention on Cuba next, but they want to “wait a few weeks.”

Speaking in the East Room of the White House during a celebration for Major League Soccer champion Inter Miami, Trump said an agreement could be imminent with Cuba.

“They want a deal so bad. You have no idea,” Trump said of the island’s communist government.

Referring to one of Inter Miami’s co-owners who is originally from Cuba, Trump said: “She’ll be back.” He added: “That would be a great day, wouldn’t it?”

“We’ll celebrate this separately. I just want to wait a few weeks. I want him to wait a couple of weeks. But we’ll be together again soon, I think, to celebrate what’s happening in Cuba,” Trump added, without providing details.

Then, referring to Marco Rubio, the president said the secretary of state wanted to act on Cuba but warned against doing so amid the war in Iran.

“Your next visit will be – we want to do this especially – Cuba,” Trump said. “He’s waiting. But he says, ‘Let’s finish this first.’ We can do them all at the same time. But bad things happen. If you watch countries over the years, you do it very quickly, and bad things happen.”
