US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran’s leaders were “gone” after the apparent killing of senior security officials.

Speaking at the White House on Tuesday during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin, the president said two senior Iranian officials had been killed, one of whom he said was responsible for the killing of 32,000 Iranian protesters in recent weeks.

“Their leaders are gone,” Trump said. “It’s an evil group.”

He made these statements after Israel said its night raids killed Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and General Gholam Reza Soleimani, head of the Basij force, made up of Revolutionary Guard volunteers. Iran did not immediately confirm the death of either of them.

The president said Joe Kent was a “nice guy” but “I always thought” he was “very weak on security.”

Trump said that Kent leaving office was a “good thing” because he disagreed with Kent’s assessment of the threat from Iran. “We don’t want these people,” he said.

Trump said NATO was making a “very foolish mistake” by not helping the United States in the Iran war

Trump complained about NATO’s refusal to join the United States in the war, calling the decision “disappointing” and bad for the “partnership.”

He proposed the idea of ​​the United States withdrawing from the coalition as a result. “It’s definitely something we should think about. I don’t need Congress to make that decision,” Trump said, adding: “I don’t have anything in mind right now but I’m not completely happy.”

NATO exists as a defensive alliance, not an offensive one, and it has said it has no plans to participate in the US-led war with Iran. However, NATO forces have been deployed for 18 years in Afghanistan and their 2011 air campaign helped oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Trump postpones his trip to China as the war on Iran continues

Trump said on Tuesday during his meeting with Martin in the Oval Office that he would head to China in five or six weeks instead of at the end of the month. He said that he would “rearrange” his visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, without going into details.
