Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney does not believe the environment is the reason behind Marcus Rashford’s inability to perform consistently for the Red Devils.
Rashford scored 138 goals in 426 matches with United since his first appearance with the club in 2016 and won five major titles.
He scored 30 goals in all competitions in the 2022-23 season, but has been unable to match that level since then and has fallen out of favor, spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Rashford is now thriving on loan at Barcelona, and recently said in an interview that he had been in an “inconsistent environment for a very long time.”, external
However, speaking on the latest episode of The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney said: “I think the environment wasn’t right but that’s down to you.
“If you’re not playing well or you’re left out of the team, I think it’s easier to blame the environment and whether that’s right or wrong. I think that comes from how you apply yourself.
“In the games we’ve seen with him, we know he can do more, we know he can run more – and it has nothing to do with the environment.
“I could be wrong here, I really like Marcus as a young man and as a person but I think it’s easy to blame people.”
