Friday is Public release of the documentary MelaniaA film about the third wife of President Donald Trump and the First Lady of the United States. WIRED’s analysis shows there are still plenty of seats available, unless you live near the AMC Classic Indian River 24 in Vero Beach, Florida. Or AMC Independence Commons 20 in Independence, Missouri.

Melania It is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and directed by Brett Ratner, known for his films Rush hour The series (another sequel is currently in production at Trump’s request) and has been accused of sexual misconduct by six different women. Ratner, who has previously denied allegations of sexual misconduct, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Both Trump and the production studio are behind Melania They spent lavishly promoting the film’s release. The documentary reportedly cost Amazon $40 million for the rights, and another $35 million for marketing. The White House hosted a private screening for a group of CEOs, including Apple’s Tim Cook and AMD’s Lisa Su. Trump promoted the film on his social media platform, Truth Social, saying: “Get your tickets today – tickets are selling out fast!”

While box office performance in the United States has generally been declining over the past several years, MelaniaTicket sales were of particular interest.

In the UK, The Guardian reported that as of Monday, only one ticket had been sold for the 3:10pm premiere at the flagship London location of Vue, a large cinema chain. (That number has since jumped to 13, according to a WIRED review of available seats.) Elsewhere online, commenters posted screenshots of empty seating charts for various theatres.

Amazon MGM Studios did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

While it seems relatively easy to find a blank display for MelaniaWIRED reporters took it a step further and identified two U.S. shows — out of the nearly 1,400 we reviewed — that were sold out on Friday.

To conduct our analysis, WIRED reviewed listings for 329 movie theaters located near 64 of the 100 U.S. cities featured in the “Best U.S. Cities to Watch a Movie” ranking list created by BetMGM, which has no affiliation with Amazon MGM Studios. (Due to technical issues, WIRED was unable to complete a full review of all of BetMGM’s top 100 cities to watch a movie before publication.) From there, WIRED identified 1,398 cities. Melania Showtimes for those theaters are listed on Fandango, a ticket purchasing site. Of those shows, only two were sold out: at 12:55 pm at AMC CLASSIC Indian River 24 in Vero Beach and 1 pm at AMC Independence Commons 20 in Missouri. On AMC’s website, both shows appear to be offered at a 20 percent discount, which is standard for showtimes before 4 p.m.

At some point Thursday afternoon, a third showing at another Florida theater appeared to be sold out, but when WIRED re-examined the listing, two front-row seats appeared to become available.

During WIRED’s review period, screening times were determined to Melania The Mann Plymouth Grand 15 Theater in Minnesota appears to have been cancelled. The theater is located in Hennepin County, Minnesota, where two observers were killed amid a large-scale incursion by federal immigration agents. Representatives for Mann Plymouth Grand 15 did not respond to a request for comment.
