West Ham: Callum Wilson is set to stay at the Hammers despite exit talks

West Ham They have blocked striker Callum Wilson’s plans to leave the club this month after talks on ending his contract were postponed.

Wilson was in advanced discussions with the club about releasing him from his contract, which expires in the summer.

But a senior Hammers official has stepped in to end those discussions, and Wilson is now set to remain at the London Stadium until the end of the season.

This development comes after Wilson scored a last-minute winner in the London derby against Tottenham on Saturday.

It has been decided internally that it would be self-defeating to allow Wilson to leave with a club that is desperate for goals in its battle to remain in the Premier League.

Wilson joined the club on a free transfer in the summer, scoring five goals in 19 appearances.

But it appears that the English player’s chances with the first team will be limited after the arrival of strikers Pablo Felipe and Tati Castellanos this month.

As a result, Wilson and West Ham have entered into talks over terminating his deal, in a move that would allow him to find another club on a free transfer.

But those plans have now been put on hold, and the 33-year-old is expected to stay until the summer.

Speaking earlier this month, Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed talks about his potential exit, saying: “Callum and I have had a lot of conversations, just 10 minutes ago we were talking about this situation.

“Two strikers have joined, right. I personally decided that these two strikers should join. Callum is a very experienced guy, he’s been in the game for a long time, and he knows his attitude has changed.”

“We’ve been honest with each other. Yes, your attitude has changed, but you’re still a club player and maybe we still need him and he should help us because he joined us.”
