What does the debate between player and fan say about Kilmarnock’s position?

Not much. Caretaker manager Chris Dolan may or may not take on the role long-term, but it is clear that Kilmarnock need a dose of quality in the upcoming transfer window.

There is no lack of effort but there is a lack of edge in the final third. It cost them against Falkirk who punished and then pinned.

Dolan admitted before the match that confidence had declined but insisted he had good players at his disposal. He pointed out the need to reconnect with supporters. Maybe not quite as much as Thompson did full time.

“We have to come together,” Dolan told BBC Scotland afterwards. “That’s what gets you somewhere in football. Everyone is pulling in the same direction.

“They fell [the fans]They need to be picked up but I think you saw the numbers that came out today, which is amazing. It’s a great place to play. The fans are huge for Kilmarnock and I’m sure they will support the team.

“When it turns, which it will and we will make it turn, it will be something they will enjoy.”

That seems as far away as those full-time scenes showed.

The chemistry between fans and the team they enjoyed under former coach Steve Clarke seems light years away at the moment.
