What is Terimoana Junior’s nationality?

Terimoana Junior was born in Campbelltown, Sydney, New South Wales, in February 1998.

While his father, Teremoana Tanjoro, hails from the Cook Islands, his mother, Alicia Teremoana, has Scottish ancestry. He is the third of six children in the family. He also traces his heritage to the Pukapuka Islands through his paternal grandfather, Teremoana Tangoro, and his grandmother, Mai Tongani, of Atiu.

In an interview, Junior’s father talked about how proud their family was of him and said:

“The whole family in general is very proud of him, he has worked hard since 2020 when he got serious. Alicia also does a lot of work behind the scenes. He also spoke at the funeral of his grandfather, named after him, and promised to take his name, Teremoana, around the world.” [H/t: Cook Island News]

As a young man, the 28-year-old boxer looked to his father and grandfather as his inspiration. In an interview, Junior spoke about how their sacrifices allowed him to take a “crack” at boxing and said:

“The people I looked up to in my life were probably my father. I looked up to him. He guided my path, and my grandfather as well. Those two guys made a lot of sacrifices for my family and for me. And just through their sacrifices, they gave me the opportunity to do this, to box in Australia. And I’m just taking the opportunity that they’ve given me and making the most of it, as I was saying.” [H/t: Boxing Scene]
