The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected wide receiver Emeka Egbuka with the 19th pick of this year’s NFL Draft and he made an immediate impact, scoring twice in his debut.
Veteran receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are out with injuries, and now Evans will be out for the rest of the season, so the 23-year-old Egbuka is set to remain the Bucs’ primary enforcer for quarterback Baker Mayfield.
“Egbuka was thrown into the fire a little bit, but everyone at Ohio State said he was a wide receiver who played college football,” Miller said.
“As a route runner, he was accurate, he was crisp, he was sharp. He was throwing the ball, so you know about his toughness and his playmaking ability.”
“And getting to know him in the pre-draft process, he was mature. He was a leader at Ohio State, even though he was never the No. 1 wide receiver. He never complained, he just showed up and did his job.”
Miller added that rookies like Egbuka and Tyler Warren are now in the NFL more ready to make the move.
Warren was the 14th overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts, who lead the way with a 6-1 record, and Warren has more receiving yards than any other tight end (439).
NFL analyst Phoebe Scheckter added: “The Colts offense has surprised a lot of people, and Warren is kind of like Brock Powers.” [at the Raiders] “Last year, it was a tough finish, where they were productive and were a key component of their offense.”
