Will Lyall Cameron put a lukewarm reception behind him to set Aberdeen on fire?

Cameron moved to Ibrox in the summer after impressing for Dundee, but made just 10 appearances in the first half of the season.

Upon signing for Aberdeen, he spoke of “reminding people” what he can do – and he made a good start against Raith Rovers.

Caretaker manager Peter Levein said Cameron showed real quality straight away in an “excellent” performance and believes he will “get better”, while the midfielder himself said he still has to “dust off the cobwebs”.

BBC Scotland expert James McFadden believes the deal looks good for both the club and the player, and says Cameron’s determination to make the move, knowing he will be criticized, is a good sign.

“The fact that he chose to make this move knowing full well what comes with it tells you a lot about his character,” McFadden said.

“You know he is a quality player, we know he has a good attitude and that is reinforced by the decision he made to go and join Aberdeen.

He added: “He has great timing in his runs into the penalty area and he poses a goal threat, and he has shown that before. He is brave and will take the ball and try to do the difficult things.”

“If you are struggling as a team, you will find a good new player who will be brave and demand the ball, create chances and get his teammates involved… I think it is a great signing for Aberdeen.”

All parties will hope that Cameron can show the form that brought him to Ibrox in the first place.

His 14 goals and nine assists in the league last season show just how beneficial this level of form has been for Aberdeen as they look to move up the table.

A key role in the cup win over Rovers is just a small start in that direction, but if Cameron continues as he has started, even the most complaining Aberdeen fans could be won over.
