American stars Serena Williams and Venus Williams will return to Wimbledon together after receiving a wildcard to compete in women’s doubles.
Neither sister is included in the singles wildcard list, although there is one remaining spot still to be awarded.
Serena, 44, returned to Queens last week, four years after playing what many expected to be the final match of her career at the 2022 US Open.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, whose credit includes seven Wimbledon titles, plays a doubles match in Berlin this week with Karolina Muchova and will continue her return to the Grand Slam stage alongside Venus at the All England Club.
Venus, the 45-year-old five-time Wimbledon singles champion, lost all seven of her singles matches this season, but won her doubles match alongside Britain’s Katie Poulter at the Madrid Open in April.
Former British number one Dan Evans did not receive a wildcard into the men’s singles main draw in what will be the final tournament of the 36-year-old’s career.
Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, who will also retire at the end of the season, earned a place in the tournament, alongside Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.
Maja Chwalinska, runner-up to the French Open, received a wildcard in the women’s singles for her participation in Roland Garros.
Wimbledon kicks off on Monday, June 29.
