So why is Great Britain so good at skeleton?

All athletes point to one specific weapon in their armory – each other.

With no ice track, the British team had to find their advantage elsewhere, and that came largely in their camaraderie.

“We only slide on an ice track about 120-150 times a year. Each run takes less than a minute, so you’re looking at less than two hours doing this sport each year,” White said.

“But if you talk to other athletes, learn from their experiences and share what you do, suddenly your knowledge triples and quadruples.

“The day before the race, I might struggle in the corners, so I ask Matt: ‘What are you doing in Turn 4?’ He said, ‘I’m trying it, it’s worked for me, and here comes the race, I might beat him.

“That’s good, because he knows that next week when he’s struggling somewhere else, I’ll help him and he might beat me.”

“On the track,” Weston added. [Wyatt’s] The first person I want to beat, I’m the first person he wants to beat.

“But when we train, when we practice things, we work well together, and I think that’s what sets us apart.” [from the rest]”.

Between them, Weston and Wyatt have won every men’s World Cup this season, the first time a single country has done so.

It bodes well for the Winter Olympics, and with structural work starting on Thursday, there is only one possible outcome in Weston’s mind.

“I have my sights set on gold,” he said. “This is the only color I want to go home with.”

“It sounds funny to say this as a two-time world champion, but I don’t really feel like I’ve been able to put down how I really feel.

“There’s more out there.”
