Jamaican Mika Moore, from Newport in South Wales, finished 14th, four places ahead of Nicole, and was pleased with the result after switching in 2022 from representing Britain after claiming she witnessed “harmful and insulting behaviour”.

Moore told BBC Sport: “I’m very happy. It’s been a very tough journey to get here, it wasn’t easy at all. I think it’s just a story of never giving up.”

“I’ve had a really tough time with Great Britain, that’s no secret at all, and I’m so proud that I didn’t give up, and I’m so grateful to my family and friends for pulling me out of the trenches when it was really tough and keeping me going. Moments like this really make it worth it.”

Moore began her sporting career as an athlete, representing Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, before switching to bobsleigh.

Her grandfather, Vinson Byfield, came to the UK as part of the Windrush family and settled in Wales.

“It’s a real proud moment,” she added.

“I talked a lot about my grandfather and how we grew up with the Windrush generation and I never had the privilege of meeting him, but my mother told me so many stories about him and it was in my heart all the time. I just wanted to make my family proud.”

“They have supported me for a long time. I am 33 now, so I am very old and they have never hesitated in their support.

“I’ve just had the most beautiful career because of them.”
