Mowat called himself all kinds of bad names during three sloppy opening matches in the Dolomites in northern Italy, but one of the sport’s biggest stars took it up against the Swedes.
And in Dodds, he has a partner who has been consistently great so far. Only Sweden’s Isabella Wrana was better statistically but she wasn’t competing here.
When Dodds asked her questions, she struggled to find answers. In fact, at one point, she knocks her brush off the side of the sheet after an errant throw when the bonds of sisterhood between her and her partner Rasmus begin to fade.
BBC sports expert Jackie Lockhart said: “It was the difference between the two girls. Isabella wasn’t shooting, but Jane was.”
At that stage, the British pair were four points ahead – the second night in a row without much sleep after a quick turnaround from Thursday’s win over the Czech Republic proved no obstacle – but the lead was reduced to 4-3 at the break.
Two more in the fifth end opened up the advantage again before the two teams traded points in the next two to leave Sweden needing four points in the final end to win.
They didn’t get anything, because the ending was empty. Mowat’s stunning throw proved decisive, showing the first pump from the bound Scot and earning him an audience with Snoop moments later.
“Can you say you won beautifully? It was much better than me and I am happy because we are making the opponents play strong shots,” Mowat told BBC Sport.
