Winter Paralympics 2026: Maxim Murashkovsky credits ChatGPT for biathlon silver

Most athletes credit their families after winning a Paralympic medal, and perhaps their coaches, friends, and the wider “team behind the team.”

But after winning biathlon silver on Sunday, Ukrainian Maxim Murashkovsky gave credit for something rather unexpected.

artificial intelligence.

“For the past six months, I have been training with ChatGPT,” the 25-year-old said after finishing second in the visually impaired men’s singles event.

“It wasn’t just tactics. It was half my training plan, my motivation, etc. So it was a huge volume of all my training.

“I used him as a psychologist, coach, and sometimes as a doctor.”

Under the guidance of Vitaly Trosh, Murashkovsky took silver behind China’s Dang Hesong.

Competing in his first Winter Paralympics, he finished seventh in his opening event, the men’s sprint, on Saturday, and has three more medal chances.

He wasn’t doing too bad before he used the AI ​​tool. In 2023, he won World Championship bronze and claimed several World Cup medals.

He says that without ChatGPT, he would stick to “classical training, as I’ve always done, with humans” — but he doesn’t think human trainers have anything to worry about just yet.

Asked if he thought they would soon be replaced by artificial intelligence, he replied: “Not quite for five to ten years. But part of it, for sure.”

“I can give a lot of credit to ChatGPT,” he added. “I believe in it. It’s a revolutionary technology.”

Ukraine currently ranks second in the Milan-Cortina medal table, having won all 10 of its medals, including three golds, in the Paralympic biathlon events.
