British figure skater Mina Fitzpatrick said she is already looking to the future after missing out on a medal at the Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics.
The 27-year-old, Britain’s most successful Winter Paralympian, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury late last year and postponed surgery to compete in her third Olympics.
But after finishing fifth in her last race in Italy, the visually impaired slalom, she told BBC Sport she wanted to compete in another Games.
“Every end of the course represents a new challenge and my plan is to be able to reach France in 2030,” she said.
“I learned how to skate for the first time in France, so it was like coming home. This will be a really cool thing for me to aim for.”
Fitzpatrick and guide Katie Guest saved their best finish for last after sixth-place finishes in the super-G and giant slalom and ninth in the alpine combined.
Austrian Veronica Aigner maintained her dominance by winning her fourth gold medal at the Games, finishing four seconds behind her compatriot Elena Stary.
Despite not having another medal in her collection, Fitzpatrick was keen to focus on the positives.
“I think it was a really successful Games for us, given where I’ve been before, so I’m really happy, especially with the performance today,” she added.
“We really went out there and pushed, and we’re really happy with the result.
“As an athlete, you always hope you get your best skiing in a race. It doesn’t happen very often, and as athletes, we get too hard on ourselves when things are tough.
“It’s been a challenging couple of weeks, but just knowing that I have these performances in me, even if the preparations don’t go as planned, gives me confidence.”
