It has been just 38 days since Pereira signed a new three-year contract, and sources have told BBC Sport that he is not in immediate danger.
Xi and the officials still feel that his experience will be crucial in the battle for survival, having taken them from second place to safety last season. Although his predecessor O’Neill signed a four-year contract on the eve of last season and only lasted another four months.
The arrival of Domenico Tite as manager of professional football in the summer is also a sign of the position of strength Pereira was in at the end of last season, with the pair working together in Saudi Arabia at Al-Shabab.
There is a reluctance to change given the number of managers the club has gone through recently and the fans’ reaction will not sway Shea.
The fact that Wolves survived after failing to win any of their first ten matches in the 2024-25 season shows that they can do so again, despite it having been six months since their last Premier League victory.
“It’s normal in football, if we win two or three games in a row, everything changes,” Pereira said in his post-match press conference.
“Two months ago they were singing my name because of the work we did last season [means] We compete in the Premier League, not the Championship. Now they are singing my name, perhaps to sack me.
“I’m not worried [about his job]It’s not about me. It’s about the team and the players. “My job is to help them bounce back, to be mentally strong for the next battle.”
Pereira also tried to defuse any tension with the fans, revealing what he said to the angry fans.
“What I told them is that we work a lot and we have to fight together,” he said.
“I understand the frustration. When you are there for 90 minutes trying to help the team, and the team gave everything they could on the pitch to win, but in the end, you concede a goal, I understand the frustration.”
“What I have to tell them is that if we fight with them united, we can win matches. If not, without them, it will be impossible.”
The turning point for Pereira will come if he loses the confidence of the players, which he did not do.
There is an acceptance that Molineux’s results were not good enough but the performance on Sunday where they came back from a 2-0 deficit, despite the defeat, reinforced the players staying behind the coach.
“Yes, of course, we all do,” striker Jorgen Strand-Larsen said.
“We know what we did last season. We’re not blaming anyone here. It’s obviously difficult for a team that had a lot of changes in the summer.
“There are a lot of new faces and it takes time to adapt. That’s why I feel like in the last few games we’ve gotten there.”
