Edwards will be joined at Wolves by Harry Watling, who is assistant coach and was part of his team at the Riverside Stadium.

Boro confirmed in a statement that Adi Viveash will continue to take charge of the first team while the club searches for a new manager.

He continued: “Rob signed a three-year contract with us during the summer, but after he made clear his keenness to join Wolves, we reluctantly agreed a compensation amount for him and one of his first-team coaches, Harry Watling.”

“On Saturday, the Riverside team came together as one, players, staff and fans, and you can feel the sense of unity that is at the heart of our club. To everyone involved, we would like to thank you.”

Wolves chief executive Geoff Shea said Edwards had shown “tactical awareness” while he was a youth coach at the club.

“After taking on first-team jobs, he began to develop his identity, personality and leadership,” Shi added.

“[Rob’s] “He is a very good person, he knows the club well, he knows the city and the fans and he is very talented.”
