Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 results: Sri Lanka’s final group match against Pakistan was called off after rain

Sri Lanka’s final group match in the Women’s World Cup against Pakistan was abandoned after 4.2 overs as rain disrupted proceedings once again in Colombo.

Pakistan reached the 18th over without loss when players were forced off the field in a match that had already been reduced to 34 overs per side.

It was a familiar story in the Sri Lankan capital, where persistent torrential rains wreaked havoc during the World Cup, with five matches ending without a result.

It was a tense match as India secured the final semi-final spot with victory over New Zealand on Thursday, eliminating both Sri Lanka and the defeated White Ferns, while Pakistan were already certain of an exit.

Seven of the 11 matches played in Colombo were affected by rain, with former England international Alex Hartley saying earlier in the tournament that the conditions had “ruined” the World Cup.

October marks the peak monsoon season on the island, with up to 370 mm of rain expected during the month.

Five of Sri Lanka’s group stage matches were played at the R Premadasa Stadium, the scene of their latest disappointment on Friday.

Pakistan played all of its matches at the stadium due to its country’s political situation with neighboring India, which is hosting the majority of the tournament.

Sri Lanka finished the tournament with one win from seven matches while Pakistan finished their campaign without a win.
