West Ham are set to appoint Rita Guarino as manager of the women’s team following the sacking of Rehane Skinner.
The Italian, who played 99 international matches for her national team as a player, has not yet been able to train outside of Italy.
She was most recently in charge of Inter Milan between 2021 and 2024, having previously led Juventus to four consecutive Serie A titles.
The 54-year-old has experience working with youth teams since her time with the Italy Under-17 national team, where she worked as a coach and assistant.
Skinner was sacked by West Ham on Thursday after winning only one of 11 Women’s Premier League matches this season.
It is believed that West Ham were monitoring Guarino’s availability ahead of the winter break, with a view to appointing her.
Guarino’s arrival will be seen as a bold move by West Ham as they are relatively unknown in England.
One of her first priorities will be navigating the January transfer window as West Ham look to move up the table. The team currently ranks second at the bottom, two points behind Liverpool.
