Wales’ skills and depth of the player pool are still up for debate.
“If the skill level isn’t as good as it should be, it doesn’t matter what formats you play,” interim attack coach Ashley Beck said.
“If we want to play an exciting brand of rugby and compete against the best, skill development has to be better.”
Beck’s view was echoed by former Wales fly-half James Hook, who was among Scrum V’s critics on Sunday. He also questioned whether Wales players were making the additions to improve as individuals.
“Whether it’s practicing kicking for an hour a day, whether it’s throwing, passing, tackling, are these players doing that? I don’t know,” Houck said.
“In my experience, once the team session is over, you should still continue with your individual work.”
Wales’ depth strength was also discussed in the panel, and Wales clearly need some reinforcements at fly-half.
“People were calling Lleucu George saying she needs a change out there,” Lillycrap said, “but in the end who comes in? If you take her out, what other 10s do you have?”
“As a fly-half on the international scene, you have to manage this team, you can’t throw a young man into the lion’s den.”
