Chelsea have won the past six Premier League titles, but at the midway point, Manchester City are in a strong position to unseat Sonia Bombastor’s side.

They entered the winter break on the back of a 10-game winning streak in the WSL and manager Andree Jeglertz was not worried about his side regaining that momentum.

“Players need and deserve some rest. It’s going to be a long season so sometimes you need those days off – even if you’re in good shape,” he said.

“I’m not worried about that, I know we’ll find our way back quickly.”

However, he acknowledged that staying in first place would be difficult, adding: “Getting there is one thing, but staying there is even harder.”

Chelsea have been far from their best this season and have already given up nine points – three more than they had in the entire 2024-25 season.

Arsenal, Manchester United and surprisingly Tottenham are closely followed in the race for a European place.

Saturday’s clash between third-placed Arsenal and United – one point adrift in fourth – could be crucial in the race for a Champions League place.

United coach Mark Skinner admitted: “It’s a big game, we know that. It’s a big game for both teams because we sit next to each other at the table.”

“We want to go there to try to win, that’s the only focus, but we also know how difficult it is and we can’t forget that they are European champions.”
