💡 **What You’ll Learn**:

WordPress.com, Automattic’s website hosting platform, will now include a built-in WordPress AI assistant, the company announced Tuesday. The feature is designed to work within a website to understand its content and layout, allowing site owners to make changes using natural language commands.

With the new tool, you can adjust a site’s layout, style, or other styles by issuing commands to the AI assistant, and then see the changes reflected in the site as you work. The company also points out that these instructions do not have to be precisely directed. Instead, you can use more general language, such as “Make this section look more modern or spacious,” “Change my site colors to be brighter and bolder,” or “Give me more font options that look clean and professional.”

You can also direct the AI to add or edit your layout, instructing it to do things like “add a contact page” or “add a testimonials section below this section.” However, the company points out that its tweaks work with collection themes, not classic themes. If you use the latter, the assistant will not appear in the editor.

A WordPress AI assistant can update site content as well, such as asking it to rewrite your bio to sound more confident, or translate a section into another language.

The AI can also act as an editor, offering headline suggestions, fact-checking, and other grammatical and editorial suggestions. This aspect is available through the Group Notes Editor that arrived in WordPress 6.9, where you can collaborate with your fellow editors. Now, you can pull AI into your workflow by typing @ai followed by your requests. The AI will provide its answers here, including relevant links and other information where it cites external sources.

Meanwhile, to help with the visuals, the Assistant takes advantage of Google Gemini’s Nano Banana AI models, which can be used to create new photos or edit existing ones. Using the AI Assistant, available as a new “Create Image” button in the media library, you can specify image requirements such as aspect ratios or dictate image styles.

The company notes that the WordPress AI Assistant is a subscription feature that users can enable if they choose. To do this, they will need to visit their list of sites once logged in, click on their site name, then Settings. Under Settings, you will scroll down to “AI Tools” and toggle the “Enable AI Assistant” setting.
