📌 Here’s what you’ll learn:

The Republic of Ireland defeated the Czech Republic twice in the eight meetings between the two countries.

Hemir Hallgrimsson’s side face a trip to the central European country in the semi-finals of European qualifying for a place in the 2026 World Cup.

A win for the Republic of Ireland on 26 March would set up a home final against the winner of the other semi-final between Denmark and North Macedonia on 31 March.

The first three meetings between the two sides were friendly during the 1990s. On all three occasions – in 1994, 1996 and 1998 – the Republic of Ireland was defeated.

The team’s matches in the 2000s began with two successive friendly matches in Dublin, and on both occasions, the home team won.

Mick McCarthy led his side to a 3-2 victory in 2000 before Brian Kerr scored a 2-1 win four years later.

Former Leeds duo Ian Hart and Robbie Keane scored in both matches.

Before Euro 2008, the two teams were in the same qualifying group.

In a home match against the Republic of Ireland in October 2006, they drew 1-1. The return leg in Prague 11 months later ended in a 1-0 victory for the home side.

Since that double header, the two teams have met just once, again in a friendly.

In February 2012, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The Czech Republic has won all three of its home matches against the Republic of Ireland, although the March meeting will be the first between the two countries in 19 years.

In the Republic of Ireland, the team currently coached by Hallgrimsson has won two matches, drawn two and lost one.
