Scots Paul Foster and Alex Marshall have become world champions at the World Indoor Bowls Championships for the fifth time.

They defeated compatriots and two-time winners Stuart Anderson and Darren Burnett 11-5, 12-7 in the final between four players who have all won world singles titles.

This is the first doubles title for Foster and Marshall since 2019, and leaves them one point behind the English duo Tony Alcock and David Bryant, who won it six times between 1986 and 1992.

Asked about their continued success, Foster told BBC Sport: “My hunger won’t change and Alex is the same.

“Age is just a number and I am very happy to win this award again.

“Stuart and Darren may not have played their best, but their record is tremendous.”

Marshall, who has now won seven doubles to his partner’s six, praised Foster, saying he was “absolutely exceptional”.

Anderson had felt fear earlier in the day before winning his singles match in the first round, 2-1, over fellow Scot Martin Rice, but he did not use that as an excuse to defeat his team.

Meanwhile, Burnett said of Foster and Marshall: “They were phenomenal.”

All four qualifying pairs advanced to the second round of singles.
