Ronnie O’Sullivan created further snooker history by making the sport’s highest ever professional break with 153 at the World Open in Yushan.
Seven-time world champion O’Sullivan set the new record in the opening frame of his quarter-final clash with Ryan Day to set the stage for a dominant 5-0 win.
The 50-year-old left the snooker at the start of the frame and the Welshman failed to escape, resulting in O’Sullivan being awarded a free.
He put the green to 16th red before adding the opening black and then reeling 15 reds, 13 blacks and two pinks before clearing the final six to reach 153.
He broke the previous record for highest professional break of 148 set by Jimmy Burnett in a UK Championship qualifier in 2004.
“I just want to say a big shout out to all the people who have been messaging me and congratulating me on my 153rd,” O’Sullivan said in a video posted on X.
“It was a very cool moment, and I’m really happy to do it. Thank you to everyone who supported me.”
O’Sullivan will face China’s Wu Yizi in the semi-finals after he beat Mark Allen of Northern Ireland with a 5-1 win.
