South Africa’s Malcolm Marks has been named Player of the Year in the men’s under-15 category at the World Rugby Awards, becoming the first hooker to win the award since 2001.

The 31-year-old has started 11 of the Springboks’ 13 Tests so far this year, scoring five tries.

Citizens Pieter-Steve du Toit and Aux Nschi and Frenchman Louis Piel-Pyare were also nominated.

Keith Wood is the only other bitch to win the award, in its inaugural year.

Marks played a key role in an impressive year for South Africa, which defended its Rugby Championship title losing just two matches.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old New Zealand second-rower Fabian Holland was named Player of the Year 15.

The Netherlands has played 12 matches with New Zealand since its first appearance against France last July, and participated in the victory over Wales 52-26 on Saturday.

He beat 20-year-old English player Henry Pollock, South Africa’s Ethan Hooker and Australian Joseph Okosu-Swale to win the award.

Chile’s Santiago Pedrero won the Men’s 15 Second Try of the Year for his goal against Samoa in a World Cup qualifier after a complex team move.

Sophie De Guidi was named Women’s Player of the Year in September, while England’s World Cup-winning coach John Mitchell was named World Rugby Coach of the Year.
