Wrexham: The size of recent US investment of £48m has been revealed

ASC – which is also a majority shareholder in Spanish giants Atletico Madrid – has taken a minority stake in Stok Cae Ras, which is believed to be just 10%.

Their investment has provided additional working capital to a club that had previously admitted to playing “catch-up” off the field after its meteoric rise from non-league just three years ago.

Although future transfer and wage budgets could benefit from additional funds, there are also ongoing plans to strengthen the club’s academy, women’s setup and general infrastructure.

At the time of the deal, Reynolds and Mack said in a statement: “From day one, we wanted to build a sustainable future for Wrexham Football Club. And to do so with a little heart and humour.

“The dream has always been to take this club into the Premier League while remaining loyal to the city. Growth like this requires global partners who share our vision and ambition, and Apollo certainly does.”

ASC has a seat on the club’s board, along with Reynolds and Mack – formerly known as McElhenney – who retain a majority shareholding and controlling stake, and the New York-based Allyn family, who own about 15%.

ASC’s parent company is said to have more than $900bn (£675bn) of assets under management, with plans to invest $5bn (£3.75bn) in the sports sector.

On top of the initial investment, the deal could also include access to further capital as part of the development goals of other areas of Cay Ras.

Wrexham are building a new 5,500-seat Kop stand which could rise to 7,750 and increase ground capacity to around 18,000. Additional long-term expansion has also been mooted as well as a desire to create a new training ground.

Next month marks the fifth anniversary of Reynolds and Mack’s high-profile takeover of the Wrexham Supporters’ Trust, which previously owned and ran the Welsh club.

This period saw a significant rise in revenues, with the club now attracting global attention due to its celebrity ownership and accompanying documentary.
