Wrexham’s Tom O’Connor, currently on loan at Peterborough United, has been fined for breaching Football Association betting rules.
He breached the rules by placing 16 bets on football matches between April 23, 2017 and May 25, 2021.
During this period, O’Connor played for Southampton and Gillingham and of the 16 bets, five were placed in competitions involving his club.
The 26-year-old admitted the charges and an independent regulatory body fined him £4,200 and issued a warning after a hearing.
He escaped further punishment, with the FA saying: “Given his early admission of guilt and his co-operation with the FA investigation and disciplinary process, the panel considered that Mr O’Connor’s conduct did not warrant a sporting sanction.”
O’Connor joined Wrexham from Burton Albion in January 2022 when the Welsh side were still in the National League but spent this season on loan at Peterborough United in League One.
The versatile Wrexham defender’s contract expires in the summer of 2027.
He has appeared 18 times in all competitions for the Posh so far this season.
