✅ Main takeaway:

Finding a YouTube video that truly matches our interests can sometimes be a challenge. The video-sharing platform seems to have recognized this issue and is taking steps to address it with its new experimental feature, “Your Personalized Feed.”

The new test aims to address the frustration users often face with algorithm-based recommendations that sometimes miss the mark. Historically, it has been reported that YouTube’s algorithm often misjudges a user’s intentions. For example, watching some Disney videos might cause the platform to assume you’re a loyal fan, leading to a huge amount of similar content — even if that’s not what you really wanted.

For trial participants, you’ll notice “Your Personalized Feed” next to the standard “Home” button on the home page. Clicking on it allows you to enter personalized prompts based on your interests.

Instead of passively scrolling through a stream of content that may not match your interests, this feature allows you to actively shape your feed by entering specific prompts. For example, if you want more cooking videos, simply typing that in the personalized feed will encourage YouTube to prioritize similar content in the future.

While it remains to be seen how popular Your Personalized Feed will be, the ability to customize your YouTube feed could be a game-changer. This may be a more effective alternative to clicking on videos one by one and using the “Not interested” or “I don’t recommend the channel” options.

YouTube isn’t the only platform launching a personalized feed. Topics were recently seen testing the algorithm configuration feature. X is also working on a feature that will allow users to tag its chatbot, Grok, to moderate their feed.
