The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday that it has signed a multi-year deal with… GoogleThe owned service will broadcast the Academy Awards ceremony starting in 2029 and continuing until 2033.
The exclusive rights deal includes red carpet coverage, behind-the-scenes content, access to the Governors Gala, as well as television broadcasts.
Coverage of the Academy Awards will be available to YouTube TV subscribers in the U.S. and available for free on YouTube to viewers worldwide, according to the announcement Wednesday.
“The Oscars are one of our core cultural institutions, honoring excellence in storytelling and art,” YouTube CEO Neil Mohan said in a statement. “Partnering with the Academy to bring this celebration of art and entertainment to viewers around the world will inspire a new generation of creativity and film fans while preserving the legacy of the Academy Awards.”
The academy has a local partnership with Disney and ABC through 2028, which includes the 100th Academy Awards, scheduled for 2028. It has an international partnership with Disney’s Buena Vista International.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor wrote in a joint statement that the YouTube partnership “will allow us to expand access to the Academy’s work to the largest possible audience around the world — which will be beneficial to Academy members and the film community.”
