Zoe Stratford, England’s World Cup-winning captain, has announced that she is pregnant with her first child.
Announcing the news on Instagram, the 29-year-old said the baby is due in September.
“We are very grateful and excited,” Stratford added.
This news comes seven months after she led the Red Roses to win the World Cup on home soil.
Stratford news will rule them out of the Women’s Six Nations, with England opening their campaign against Ireland at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham on Saturday 11 April.
England are yet to confirm who will captain the side for the 2026 campaign, but Marley Packer and Meg Jones were vice-captains during the World Cup, with Alex Matthews taking the captain’s armband in the pool match against Australia.
Red Roses coach John Mitchell will name his Six Nations squad on Friday.
Stratford was named the 2021 FIFA World Player of the Year and also co-led her club Gloucester-Hartpury to three successive Women’s Super League Rugby titles.
Since her World Cup success, she has also opened a café with England and Gloucester teammate Natasha Hunt.
Stratford becomes the third England player to announce her pregnancy this year, after Bristol pair Lark Atkin-Davies and Abby Ward.
