Chris Eubank Sr has refuted claims he was paid to attend the April fight between his son Chris Eubank Jr and Connor Penn, in the lead-up to Saturday’s rematch.
Eubank Jr and Ben will meet for the second time – just as their fathers did in the 1990s – at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Eubanks had been apart for several years before they got out of the car together and stunned the boxing world on the night of that first bout.
“They are lying to you [about receiving money]”And if you’re saying what they told you, they’re lying,” Eubank Sr. said.
“I speak and I want the truth, nothing but that. This is real entertainment.”
There have been claims in recent weeks that Eubank Sr was paid to be at his son’s side in April, something the former two-weight world champion has vehemently denied.
In a BBC film broadcast this week, Eubank Jr confirmed his father would attend the rematch, but he was not expected to attend the press conference.
The duo arrived on stage to Tina Turner’s “The Best” — a song that Eubank Sr. used as his own walkway.
“I’m here to support. I’m here to protect.” [my son]added Eubank Sr., who was wearing a tweed suit.
“Regarding the son’s love, if the father takes the money, there is nothing wrong with that. If the father does not take the money, consider that. I am here for the heart and the love.”
Nigel Benn, who has also heard the rumours, refused to comment when Eubank Sr pushed him to reveal the location, instead saying he just wanted to focus on his son before joking that he would “get it” with his old rival.
The parents faced off after the press conference before hugging each other.
