Chris Eubank Jr’s defeat to Conor Benn could be the right time to retire, according to former boxers Carl Frampton and Barry Jones.

Eubank, 36, was defeated unanimously by Ben at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, seven months after Eubank won the first meeting between the two.

All three judges scored the fight convincingly in Penn’s favor with Eubank struggling to even challenge his opponent, months after beating him.

“It was a great performance from Conor, but this might be the time to call it a day for Chris,” retired world champion Frampton told DAZN.

“I’m not trying to be harsh, I’m just being honest.”

Jones, a former WBO super featherweight champion, echoed Frampton’s sentiments, noting Eubank’s struggles throughout the fight.

“I think it has to be the end for Chris,” Jones said on DAZN.

“It was evidence from the first round that it was flat. It could be the weight or it could be due to wear, I think it’s the latter.”

“We have to give all the credit to Connor Benn, but there were opportunities for Chris to pull the trigger.

“He didn’t throw punches in the first round. He was very lethargic.”

Lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson, who has won belts at multiple weight divisions, said Eubank had clearly “bleeded his weight” while boxing legend-turned-promoter Oscar De La Hoya also defended Eubank’s performance.

“Let me give you a little boxing lesson,” he said on the X programme.

“Eubank never had a chance due to weight loss.”

Trainer and former boxer Paul Smith said before the fight that he felt it was a step too far for Eubank, but he praised the Briton for a “fantastic career.”

He added: “People who seemed to always hate or dislike him, ended up loving him in the end. Like his father.”
