Joe Hawkins has gone from being an international exile in Exeter to helping Wales try to cope without its England-based unit.
Steve Tandy’s men ended their autumn campaign with a tough match against world champions South Africa in Cardiff on Saturday.
The match against the Springboks will be tough enough with a full squad, but Wales will have to make major changes to the 23 players who produced a lively performance in the 52-26 defeat to New Zealand.
Tandy is without Montpellier’s Adam Bird as well as 12 players returning to English clubs because the fundraiser was arranged outside World Rugby’s official testing window.
Hawkins, who made his first international cap in two years against the All Blacks after his move to the Scarlets allowed him to resume his international career, is confident the MPs can step up.
“You always have to be ready and the opportunity can always come early sometimes due to injuries,” the center or fly-half said.
“The players have trained hard and I’m pretty confident that whoever comes in can do well next weekend.”
