English rider Davey Todd produced a dominant performance to take victory at the Macau MotoGP Grand Prix on Saturday.
The Yorkshire rider finished 10 seconds ahead of Zeeco 8TEN Racing BMW team-mate Peter Hickman, while Finnish rider Erno Kostamo, who also rides for a BMW, was a further 14 seconds behind in third.
Todd was in control of the 12-lap race on the 3.8-mile Armco-lined Joya Circuit throughout, holding off his rivals to a sweeping success.
Polesitter Todd also set the fastest lap of the race at 2 minutes, 23.702 seconds, which marginally beats Stuart Easton’s 15-year-old track record of 2:23.616 seconds.
The 30-year-old Isle of Man TT winner was awarded the win on the basis of setting the fastest qualifying time 12 months earlier, after the race was canceled due to extreme weather conditions caused by a passing cyclone.
The victory completes a successful year on public road circuits for the Saltburn-on-Sea rider, who claimed a hat-trick of victories in the North West 200, won the Superbike TT and took feature race honors in the Southern 100.
Hickman, a four-time Macau race winner, competed for second place with 2022 race winner Kostamo in the early stages, but the Finn lost a number of positions after being overtaken in the Lisbon section of the circuit, before recovering to take the last place on the podium.
Wigan rider Rob Hodgson achieved his best result in the event by finishing fourth, while Swiss rider Lucas Maurer and Italian Maurizio Bottalico completed the top six.
Australian David Johnson, New Zealander newcomer Mitch Rees, Manx rider Michael Evans and Phil Crowe from England rounded out the top ten.
Northern Ireland’s Paul Jordan, Republic of Ireland’s Michael Sweeney and England’s Sam West all retired from the race, while the remaining 17 runners completed the event.
