Scottish Cup: Rangers v Celtic – why Danny Ruhl needs to win the cup

Rangers boss Danny Ruhl needs to win the Scottish Cup more than his old counterpart Martin O’Neill, says former Celtic striker Chris Sutton.

The two Glasgow rivals meet at Ibrox for the second week in a row, this time in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

Rangers took a 2-0 lead in Sunday’s Premier League encounter, before Celtic came back to equalize in the second half, with both teams chasing leaders Hearts.

Sutton says he cannot predict who will win the cup tie, given the inconsistency of both sides this season, but believes that despite a “brilliantly good” performance, Ruhl is under more pressure to perform.

“You’d think home advantage might suit Rangers with their record under Danny Ruhl, but the game at the weekend proved any result is entirely possible,” Sutton said.

“I think Danny Ruhl needs him more than Martin O’Neill. The reason I say that is because Martin O’Neill as a coach this season has twice come in and kept Celtic hanging in the title race.

“Celtic fans will not blame Martin O’Neill for the chaos the club has seen this season. We know where the anger, anger and blame lies from Celtic fans.”
