Must watch… Ian Russell in Molly vs. the Machines.

Molly vs. Machines (Mark Silver, 2026), at 9pm, Channel 4
As a tragic story of a teenage suicide, Mark Silver’s documentary is truly worth watching. The film follows Ian Russell, the father of 14-year-old Molly, as he eloquently campaigns against the harmful online content that contributed to her death in 2017, while her friends remember the girl they loved. But there is also a second, broader thread related to the rise of libertarian and unregulated social media companies. Their repeated failure to protect children, despite full knowledge of the impacts, was exposed by Ian, industry insiders and by a reconstruction of the 2022 investigation into Molly’s death. Simon Wardle
