Dean Henderson – Two important saves from Arber Hoxha to keep Albania at bay in the second half. He will be Jordan Pickford’s backup next summer. 6

Jarrell Quansah – I can be happy with this England debut in an unfamiliar position at right-back. He doesn’t have a long-term future in the position but he has done a good job for his team. 7

John Stones – You get into the midfield at every opportunity. He is just as skilled in midfield as he is at centre-back. Crucial for England. 6.5

Dan Byrne – He saw a lot of the ball but was not the most consistent with his passing. There are still questions about his ability against top international strikers. 6

Nico O’Reilly – He was caught for two lapses in concentration in the first half but improved in the match. He can be happy with his first two international caps. 6

Adam Wharton – He showed flashes of the ability that made him one of England’s most promising midfielders, but he was nowhere near enough to dislodge Elliot Anderson from the regular starting line-up. 6

Declan Rice – England’s number four is once again deployed at number eight. It wasn’t his most eye-catching display, but he remains one of England’s most important players. 6.5

Jarrod Bowen – He made a few meaningful marks on the right side but the position belonged to Bukayo Saka and everyone knew it. 6

Jude Bellingham – He bounced in and out of the game on his return to the England national team and looked disappointed to be taken off the field, but he will be hugely important to his country’s chances of success at the World Cup. 6.5

Eberechi Eze – He did not pose a consistent enough threat down England’s left. More suited to the No.10 role – where England are overburdened with options. 6
